Finding the True Number of Females with Autistic Spectrum Disorder by Estimating the Biases In Initial Recognition and Clinical Diagnosis

The true ratio of males to females with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is believed to be lower than the commonly quoted 4:1 ratio due to biases preventing females from being diagnosed. A study using different methods found that the true ratio is 3:4, with 80% of females remaining undiagnosed at age 18, leading to significant mental health consequences for young women.
